It’s like what they say when you first meet the one…you just know.
As an artist, I’ve always felt unsatisfied with my own website. I’ve had four sites in the past fifteen years with five attempts at a design. It’s a frustrating feeling not being able to express yourself creatively in a world of techie-software and HTML coding. Even when I worked one-on-one with a programmer, we just didn’t connect.
Then I met Alyssa.
She had invited me to style a bouquet photo shoot for Exquisite Weddings Magazine. It was an honor, of course, and an instant admiration for her as the Creative Director of such an esteemed publication. The shoot was stunning in print and I gained a new fabulous colleague in this Industry.
When Alyssa went out on her own to pursue her business of graphic design and marketing, I knew we had to work together again. Not only is she an amazing artist herself, but she’s logical and concise, while still being a creative. Alyssa understands what my company is all about and completely helped organize my site’s content in a functional way that is user-friendly and manageable. As you can see, the site has a clean but polished design, which truly highlights my work, and is a personal expression of my business, Adorations Botanical Artistry.
Alyssa creates marketability. That’s what a seasoned graphic design professional does. She has refreshed and reinvigorated my brand by partnering with me to give my work the best presentation possible, which at the end of the day, is in complete alignment with the weddings and events I do.
I am so excited to share this blog post with you. For the first time in my career, I truly feel that the Adorations brand is cohesive and moving in the right direction. Alyssa is continuing to work with me on our new subscription service, referral program, and a rental catalogue for event professionals (which is coming soon)! I cannot thank and recommend Alyssa enough for her countless hours creating this site, and for it finally being the one.
GETTING TO KNOW: Alyssa McNees @ alyssamcnees.com
Occupation: Graphic & Web Design, Marketing, Branding, Art Direction
Education: San Diego State and Platt College for Graphic Design
Birthday and Astrological Sign: December 2nd. I am a true Sagittarius. Generally I’m quite easygoing, a bit restless, cheerful, and friendly, with an optimistic nature that can get me into trouble from time-to-time. Since I am a fire sign, I do have a quick temper… sometimes. And while I like being on the go, I’m usually 10 minutes late to everything.
Favorite San Diego restaurant: I love BO-beau Kitchen + Bar
What was your inspiration for the NEW Adorations site? LaVonne was really the inspiration. I wanted her work to POP off the site but be modern, classic, and fun.
What does your office look like? My workspace is actually my kitchen table, which gets really exciting when I’m on deadline and my 3-year-old and 1-year-old want to help out.
Favorite color palette: Yellow, gray, and teal
Favorite font: It’s really hard for me to pick just one. I like Mr. Sheffield, Geetype, and Honey Script, which are all scripty fonts that are playful and fun. Plus, I use Gotham a lot as it goes with everything… sounds funny saying that about a font, but it’s true.
When and where did you get married? I got married at my favorite hotel in San Diego - Estancia, La Jolla on September 20, 2009
Who designed your wedding dress? Judd Waddell, it was love the minute I tried it on.
With all your wedding-industry experience, can you envision your daughters’ weddings…yet? Not at all! I know things will be so different by the time it happens for them as we are still very far away from those momentous occasions. I just hope I still have such talented vendors around me when their big day is here.
How would you describe your relationship to LaVonne and how has that translated into your projects together? LaVonne and I have had a great connection since we first met! Her excitement is just contagious that it made this experience so exciting to see the site come together. We would build off each other’s ideas to make it even more perfect than planned.
