FOR A MOTHER’S ADORATION: The Lindsay Earle Story

Your Donation receives “All Kinds of Goodness” from Adorations

There is nothing more I adore than being able to spend time my son.

As any working mom can attest, balancing home, family, and career is a constant struggle; one that I often find myself at odds with. When I heard of the continuing battle my friend and fellow industry professional Bobby Earle and his lovely wife Lindsay were dealing with, my heart fell for them.

I met Bobby and Lindsay working on one of my all-time favorite weddings named the Sacred Elements in my gallery. It was nothing short of spectacular, as the design inspiration drew direct from the couple’s spiritual ideals, combining their Native American and Celtic heritages. As artists, we truly felt blessed to have the opportunity to reflect so symbolically and ethereally within their ceremony décor, creating an enchanting 5-point floral canopy representing the elements of earth, air, fire, water and spirit. I adored this celebration as their style allowed me to create freely and organically in the way I am so passionate about.

Bobby and his wife Lindsay shot this wedding together so brilliantly and I truly got to know them as a couple, seeing their love for each other, their work, and towards their own faith, making this a very emblematic wedding celebration for us all.

BE Collage 2.jpg

Lindsay gave birth to her son, Clive, not long after the Sacred Elements wedding. And as a mother to my only son Brom, I know how special that bond between mother and child can be.

While navigating the roads of new-parenthood, Bobby became diagnosed with Crohn’s Disease and took a break from the industry to better his health, for both himself and his family.  As many know, Bobby’s generosity and kind heart are so infectious that it was a true loss to see him take that step away from his career to fight a very agonizing condition.

I was moved by Bobby’s ongoing courage and continued faith. What we all hoped would alleviate some pain in this beautiful family’s life, only got worse when his wife was diagnosed with a very rare, incurable, neurological disease that has overwhelmingly taken over their lives.

Lindsay suffers from Chronic Migraine Syndrome, which is like living with a constant, never-ending migraine that leads to sharp stroke-like attacks that leave her practically disabled. She cannot cook, clean, work or even play with her son during these episodes, which can last all hours for up to 4-6 days per week.

I just can’t imagine something like this affecting my family and taking time away from my little boy.

While I hope you take the time to read the Earle’s complete story, it is my greater hope that you find it in your heart to contribute to their mission to get Lindsay well. There is a possible neurosurgery available in Texas that may help her, but the costs of her care, even with insurance, are just a continued burden on the family. We at Adorations want to do as much as we can to support the efforts implemented by friends to raise money for this incredibly inspirational family!

We encourage you to make a donation of $100 or greater. The first 10 donors to donate $100+ and comment below will receive a signature Adoration’s Botanical Artistry arrangement delivered direct to your door, anywhere in San Diego county, as a special THANK YOU from us and the Earle’s! God bless this family. Our love and prayers are constantly with you!!

VENDOR LOVE: GARRETT RICHARDSON PHOTOGRAPHY

Editorial Feature in Ceremony Magazine 2015

Photography by Garrett Richardson Photography
(formerly of Clove of Kin)

This week, the hot off the press copies of Ceremony Magazine 2015 arrived in our mailbox, showcasing truly amazing features for Adorations Botanical Artistry and that of our colleagues. We were thrilled to see our editorial spreads in print and look forward to sharing those in detail on our blog with a “behind-the-scenes” story of how they all came to be.

Being that I also had the pleasure to attend one of my first 2015 wedding-industry events last week, the Grand Opening Party for the “Lofty Wedding Collection,” I was inspired to begin with a young man and the passion he has for his work – a vendor who I had the opportunity to work with to create one of my published contributions in Ceremony.

Now, Garrett Richardson is quite a talented photographer. His new Photography Studio is located directly above the brand new Elle Bridal Boutique and across from Posh Paperie in this cool urban space in Downtown San Diego; making this trio, the “Lofty Wedding Collection.” Garrett, who was formerly with Clove and Kin, started this year beginning a new chapter in his life and launching this vendor collective and establishing his own namesake photography company. Garrett’s work is already very well known but he made quite an impression on me during a shoot together for Ceremony Magazine last year.

As featured in the magazine as our FARM TO TABLE spread, which couldn’t be more perfectly titled (and you will understand why soon enough), Adorations had two photographers assist in capturing our king-table concept at Green Acres; one of which was Garrett, working under the Clove and Kin company. I had never met Garrett before this shoot but he had come highly recommended, as I had noted his stunning photography work in the past. His demeanor was as sweet as can be and his execution in shooting not only the massive tabletop but the “cabbage patch” floral bouquet was flawless – ending up on a full page feature in the 2015 Ceremony.

When I saw Garrett at his Grand Opening, I was so proud of him to see all that he had accomplished in this past year. From our first meeting at the Green Acres shoot, I had instantly connected with him, which is something I do when I share that creative drive and personal philosophy with another being. Garrett’s ventures to create his own business and establish his brand were just so on point and when he shared his story on “THE TREE” in his logo, my heart simply melted.

Inspired by family, connection and relationships, Garrett recalled childhood drives up the central coast to visit his relatives in San Luis Obispo and spending those long car rides staring out the window passing by magnificent oak trees.

“These trees were just each so unique and different, in their own way,” remarks Garrett. “An Oak isn’t going anywhere. Its one of the longest and deeply rooted trees in the ground, and it becomes part of everlasting life. It’s faithful. Sturdy. Something that lasts – just like that of marriage, which grows into family. Those are the kind of portraits I love to photograph.”

Because we share these sentiments of what weddings truly represent, I fell more in love with this bright, young photographer and his reflective heart. Garrett’s engaging personality, honest soul and tremendous work ethic will follow him to great success. I am so honored to have met him on our Ceremony Magazine shoot and look forward to many more inspired projects with his brand, Garrett Richardson Photography. I just can’t help but think of him and his Giving Tree.

50 SHADES OF FABULOUS: Janissa & Sherwin

VALENTINE’S DAY is less than one-month away! While many are counting down the days to the release of the much-anticipated film, 50 Shades of Grey, we here at Adorations are celebrating 50 Shades of Love, all MONTH long. As you know LOVE blossoms in many forms and with that we shower you with passionate couples, sultry shots, and the feeling we all ADORE most…LOVE!

That kiss… have you ever seen one onscreen as passionate?

Forget about Christian Grey – let’s talk about Sherwin and Janissa’s high-fashion and modern love story, celebrating their special day at the Shade Hotel in Manhattan Beach.

In fact, let’s watch the trailer….

Janissa & Sherwin are unlike many couples and wanted to express their love through modern design, artistry, fashion, family, friends, and of course, one another. “Being in the industry, our goal was to provide a rather non-traditional wedding for our guests to experience,” says our gorgeous bride Janissa. “All of the events throughout our engagement leading up to the wedding and even there after, have been nothing short of memorable.”

With a color palette of greys, creams, and pops of crimson red, their wedding scheme completely lent itself to the venue’s natural design. The chic Shade Hotel was actually the one and only ceremony and reception space the couple viewed. Knowing they had found the one, the question became, “How do we make the wedding exude a simplistic yet modern design that exudes high fashion and sexiness during the day?”

The answer was simple – bring in event designer & coordinator Charmae of Bellz & Whistlez and Adorations Botanical Artistry to collaborate with the talented bride. Charmae wanted to play with the use of textures influenced by Janissa’s wedding gown and made a custom backdrop for the altar with hanging ribbons and lace embroidery hoops. The dramatic faux fur aisle runner set focus on the red dahlia and dusty miller–filled boxes leading up to the aisle adorned with wooden pedestals with arrangements varying in white and red.

To transition from the “I Do’s” to the “Brilliant Party” in the same space, tables were set in crimson linens while we repurposed the ceremony décor into white centerpiece arrangements full of crimson linens, dahlias and dusty miller. The ceremony altar became a stunning sweetheart table and cake display with a plexi-glass base set overtop of florals to showcase their sweet puppy-love toppers.

Janissa and Sherwin’s wedding began long before their actual wedding day – we loved hearing about their pre-wedding bridal luncheon and photo/film shoot with their absolutely gorgeous bridal party that not only made their save-the-date wedding invites so fabulous but also turned into one phenomenal grand entrance film and photo memories set amongst the reception. We thought Janissa’s sense of extraordinary style was even more striking with the quote she included on her invitations regarding her guests’ dress:

"What makes a brilliant party? Clothes. Good clothes. A frumpy party is nothing more nor less than a collection of badly dressed persons." ~ by Emily Post

Not only were each of her bridesmaids donned in uniquely different cream dresses but each groomsman in a different shade of grey. The guys also wore distinctive boutonnieres to show off their individual style, all of which were carefully curated by our high-fashion couple. And the guests adhered to the “good clothes” dress code, making this one fashionably fabulous wedding celebration con amore!

Begum & Michael’s San Diego Wedding

Pistachio and pale peach – what a delightful color palette to inspire this lovely al-fresco wedding overlooking the harbor in San Diego.

Begum and Michael had the gorgeous So-Cal skies as a backdrop for their nuptials, held at Harbor Island Park. Their candy-sorbet color palette may have been the focal point for our décor scheme, but these two lovebirds couldn’t be anymore sweeter in love. Coming from different religious backgrounds, their wedding day was such a perfect blend of tradition and romance, making our job easy breezy to make this pair shine on the big day.

Working alongside my friend and collaborator, Thomas Bui Lifestyle, we created their ceremony décor to focus on the stunning chuppa. The soft-pleated fabric Concepts Event Design  draped perfectly to imbue lots of movement from the placement of our florals and the gentle wind off the Pacific. We twirled tulips, garden roses, orchids, hydrangea, and dahlias in abundance and added lisianthus and scabiosa for a rich botanical texture. Orchids cascading down the back of the arbor were threaded with crystals to add that extra glimmer of sparkle.

Guiding the eye down the aisle were four magnificent arrangements interweaving our floral palette, echoing the sentiments of the chuppa design. After the momentous “breaking of the glass,” guests mingled in the fabric-swaged open-air tent, set with similar florals in varying sizes, some wrapped in custom vessels with gold accents.

And while we must save the best for last… our favorite floral feature from Begum and Michael’s stunning wedding day design was the custom floral “bumper” that decorated their vintage Rolls. “Just Married” never looked so good. Way to stay seriously classy in San Diego!

STORYBOOK LOVE

Megan and Trevor at the San Diego Central Library

This storybook tale definitely begins with a “fairy” godmother.

Trevor’s godmother to be exact. She set it up so that her godson would meet Megan at the Planned Parenthood of the Pacific Southwest Annual Dinner. While it may not have been the best place to find love, it was the start to this romance.

While our leading lad and lady are both very active in the community, it was only a matter of time (actually 18-months later) that they re-met at a friend’s house during a political fundraiser. After that, they just kept bumping into each other all over town at various events. It wasn’t until National S’mores Day that they shared in their first official date and I’m sure you can guess what they indulged in…s’mores over the kitchen stove! It’s this sweet serendipitous moment that would come full circle as they wed exactly three years later, on National S’mores Day, with their “fairy” godmother officiating, and of course, a cake inspired by their sweet love.

With their backgrounds both rooted in the community, it is fitting they chose to marry, and were the very first couple to do so, at the new Downtown San Diego Central Library seven weeks before the grand opening to the public. Megan works for the Library Foundation and had been working on the project for six years. Amongst the stacks and the grandeur of the library’s amazing architectural design, they said their “I Do’s” in front of a close circle of friends and family overlooking the San Diego skyline.

Our modern-day couple had a very chic affair with a vibrant mix of exotic florals displayed in sophisticated vessels and glass orbs. The style perfectly complemented the newness of the library’s design and was a great juxtaposition with the brightly bound books that set our stage at the venue. Megan and Trevor’s vision of their wedding day certainly came true!

HEART OF GOLD: Amber and Matt

There’s no question that Amber and Matt share a HEART of gold…and a great sense of style!!

On June 21st this lovely couple said their “I dos” under, literally, a glittering heart, framed in a lush white arch of phalaenopsis orchids, dahlias, and hydrangea.

0440Amber_Matt.jpg

Their Rancho Valencia wedding was a dream come true for the beautiful bride who had a clear vision of exactly what she wanted her special day to look like. It was right up my alley to transform her very own ideas and personality into a chic wedding day design with textural organic florals, amongst pops of pink, with black and white stripes, all embellished in gold sparkles!

While the bride had her heart set on the main Ceremony focal point – the 4ft, wired heart of gold, she also wanted to say her vows with a simple white color palette of flowers. Her reception, of course, was just the opposite with a vibrant combination of the season’s most sought-after peonies, dahlias, and garden roses peppered throughout the affair. The tables were dressed to the nines in sleek black linens, striped table runners and hot pink napkins, offset with glittering moments of gold!

Adorations adored working on this June nuptial and can’t wait to see it featured in PRINT very soon!!

Ode to Peonies

Oh sweet peony, how we love you so! We truly despise having to see you go…

It is that season! The most sought after flower has been in bloom since about mid-May and carries through till the end of June. While we floral designers are known to pull a few tricks out of our sleeve, the precious peony is only available for just a few more weeks, and then we must bid farewell to the most popular seasonal wedding fleur of all time!

Last weekend, I purchased peonies from a grower in Oregon and they were the last of his crop. The shipment arrived on Tuesday morning and the flowers looked more like marshmallows tightly bound up in shape. As the week progressed I watched, as the blooms started to magically unfold exploding into their femininity like that of a woman. By Saturday they had opened up into their magnificence and were such a sight to be seen! As if I didn’t know before, I completely understand why us ladies adore this very, VERY, special flower.

We were in Vegas for a wedding and as you know, there is a lot of heat in Sin City. The temperature had its effect on the flower and I mean that in a positive way. The heat caused the phenomenal bloom, allowing the luscious petals to exude its full beauty. These peonies were so spectacularly gorgeous that I just had to pull a few out of the arrangements (after the wedding, of course) and left them in my hotel room overnight, hoping the maids took them home to enjoy!

There are so many varieties of peonies, some single, double or multi-layered, like the Sarah Bernhardt, which is the classic, double-bloomed, frilly pink peony that resembles that of an old-fashioned rose. Coral Charm Peonies are also quite popular, as they open into a bowl-shaped bloom revealing a glowing mass of stamens in a deep coral-peach shade. The Cerise Peony is more fuchsia in color and has an outer guard petal that protects the fluffy petaloids insides. Yellow tree peonies are one of my favorite kinds and actually grow trees as opposed to bushes so they aren’t quite as dense. It amazes me the number of peony varietals there are—over 3,000 cultivated types are known throughout the world!!

So enjoy these seasonal beauties while they last… I know Trader Joe’s has been quite a haute spot to pick up a bouquet of stems for your home at an amazing price!!! And while we can’t get peonies all year, we do see some varieties return in the winter months, like the Coral Charm in October, white in November and the deep burgundy blooms in December, right in time for the holidays. However, these lovely pink petals are on their way out, which does make me wonder if that’s why June has become known for weddings…it MUST be because of the picture-perfect PEONY season!

Maharani Weddings FEATURES Adoration’s FLOWER CROWNS

Shot by Braja Mandala Wedding Photography

There is something magical about placing a flower crown a top a lady’s head. It’s the moment when she transforms into her very own inner princess…

Adoration’s was inspired to create three very special floral crowns for a shoot with the incredibly talented photographer, Braja Mandala. Braja sent me the image of three Radhiki Gopi Skirts in different styles and asked that I create the finishing or rather crowning look with a floral headpiece.

I am often asked to create these fresh floral head wreaths for all ages, mostly darling young flower girls or for the bridal parties at rustic outdoor weddings, but these skirts were extravagant in their ethnic detailing, which inspired me to make dramatic accessories to complement.

The first crown was a luscious compilation of roses and dahlias in an ivory and green color palette while the second crown was a bountiful mix of colorful florals to offset the gorgeous patterned blue skirt design.  The third crown was very simple --- a strand of white hyacinth blossoms that were delicately sewn together with petite beads to add a touch of fresh flora to an ethnic head wrap.

This stunning fashion editorial shoot is featured TODAY on MaharaniWeddings.com. We are thrilled to have contributed to this incredible feature with Braja Mandala Wedding Photography and Gopi Skirts. Thank you so much for including Adorations and our floral crowns… again, perfect for any princess, at any age!
